This gynandromorph Northern Cardinal is always one of my favorite examples for weird sex characteristics in nature!
A gynandromorph is both male and female. In the case of this cardinal (yes, the painting is based on a real photograph) it is very visual as cardinals are sexually dimorphic. Males are typically bright red, and females are duller brown. The gynandromorph is basically split in half with male colors on one side and female colors on the other.
